What is a Quincenera Celebration?
When a young person reaches the age of 15 or 16 years, she has a celebration called Quinceanera. The tradition dates
back to a custom of the Mayas and Toltecs. At age fifteen, the boys and girls were presented to the tribe as reaching the
status of young adulthood. The ceremony included the fifteen-year-old boys and girls making a commitment of
responsibility to the community. The community in turn accepted them as a committed and responsible adult member.

Today in the Catholic Church, the celebration of Las Quinceanera emphasized the young person's religious commitment
and responsibility to God and the Church. The young lady dedicates herself to live her baptismal faith as a young adult in
the Catholic community of believers. Those present at the celebration accept her prayer of dedication as a mature sign of
her personal commitment to God and the Church.

What is required to have a Quinceanera celebration?
1. Parents of the Quinceanera must be registered at least one year prior to the date of their choice. Call church office to
make an appointment.
2. The quinceanera must have fulfilled the Sacraments of Baptism and First Communion. If she is lacking Confirmation,
she must be working towards receiving this Sacrament.
3. The quinceanera must attend our Youth Ministry Program appropriate for her age. This is a requirement and attendance
will be submitted to the quinceanera coordinator.
4. As her date gets closer, she must attend a Quinceanera Retreat held by the Sisters of Mount Tabor in Callalen.
5. And she must perform ten (10) hours of community service.

What is the cost?
